Handset Review: Lava Xolo X900

Lava Xolo X900 is not just another offering from an Indian brand, but it is actually first Intel processor based Android phone.

Xolo X90 is not merely a product coming out from Lava, but it is importantly Intel's entry (or should we say re-entry) into the smartphone segment. Intel used to have a processor for PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant) way back in 1996.

So let's look at how Intel has fared in creating a smartphone that can challenge not just other brands but to challenge ARM which is somewhat default processor architecture provider for all smartphones.



The phone looks somewhat like the iPhone 4, with its rectangular body with curved corners and flat front and back. There is a chrome strip on the sides of the front panel. The sides are in grey colour with aluminum finish and the back is in rubberised black. The back cover doesn't open and there is no expandable memory either but it has 16 GB internal memory.





The SIM slot for the micro SIM is on right side and is similar to that of iPhone's placement and opens the same way. At the bottom there is a micro USB slot and on the side is the micro HDMI port, while the power button and 3.5 mm jack is at the top.



There is also a dedicated camera button as well as a volume rocker on the right side. The camera and LED flash is at the top of the back side. Lava Xolo comes with stereo speakers which are placed at the bottom of both front and rear panels. All in all, it has a very simple yet elegant design.

Though it is not the lightest or the slimmest, but Xolo feels nice to hold.

T-Mobile UK announce internet travel boosters from a quid,

 Over here in the United Kingdom, operators have been getting some pressure from watchdogs and consumers to cut roaming rates for calls and internet usage when abroad. Both Vodafone and Three UK recently announced the EuroTraveller for Vodafone, and Euro Internet Pass for Three, and now T-Mobile has announced their Internet travel boosters.

According to the guys over at Pocket-lint, customers of T-Mobile UK can now stay online whilst abroad anywhere in the world, as the operator has now introduced their Internet and Broadband Travel Boosters that start of for as little as a quid.

T-Mobile UK’s Internet and Broadband Travel Boosters start at £1 for 3MB in Europe, however the rate can go as high as £280 for 50MB in such countries as Brazil, Cuba, and Qatar.

When a T-Mobile customer logs onto the internet via their smartphone or broadband device whilst overseas, they get redirected to a web page where they will be able to purchase a booster so they wont rack up a heavy bill.

Apparently the Internet and Broadband Travel Boosters will become available as of tomorrow the 19th of June, and the cost of the Internet and Broadband Travel Booster will be added to your monthly bill or in the case of Pay As You Go customers the cost will be deducted from your credit.

Does seem too bad to me if you are heading for Europe on your holidays, however perhaps if you are heading to one of those other countries such as Brazil, Cuba and Qatar then perhaps it’s not such a good deal and it maybe prudent to leave your smartphone at home.

RIM's BlackBerry Curve 9360 now comes camera-less,



Unless you're one of the lucky few who managed to get their hands on the camera-less iPhone 4S, here's another option for those who work in high-security environments. RIM now has a Curve 9360 that comes without a camera.

Targeted at military personnel (especially for those in Singapore who are doing their compulsory military service), the Curve 9360 lacks the 5-megapixel camera found on the normal version.

Strangely, RIM had previously stated that demand for non-camera versions has decreased, and we would not see many non-camera BB handsets--looks like consumers have made their wishes known.

The handset lets you surf the Web, browse Facebook, and chat over BBM with your friends--basically everything a smartphone can do. Just be sure not to use it to tweet about any sensitive information and you're all set.
