Motorola Atrix HD accidentally leaked,



Looks like someone at Motorola jumped the gun on the Atrix HD.

Earlier this morning, a splash page that included specs and a sign-up button for Motorola's Atrix HD appeared on the company's Web site. It has since been removed.

Codenamed "Dinara", the latest handset in the Atrix lineup is splash resistant and has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

It runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and its 4.5-inch HD ColorBoost display is made out of Corning Gorilla Glass.

Similar to the Motorola Droid Maxx and Razr, it'll also feature the Kevlar microweave fiber backplate.

The Atrix HD will sport an 8-megapixel camera in the rear, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

Though pricing and availability dates haven't been announced, the AT&T logo on the front is a dead giveaway for what carrier it'll be on.

Canada's Rogers Comms cuts 375 jobs as revenue slips,







Rogers Communications Inc , Canada's largest wireless company and a major cable provider, said on Tuesday that it has cut hundreds of jobs to trim costs amid tough competition.

The 375 people including some managers in both wireless and fixed-line businesses were notified on Tuesday, Rogers spokeswoman Patricia Trott said. The cuts were effective immediately.

Rogers employs around 30,000 people.

"It's a difficult decision," she said. "It's part of a comprehensive approach to cost management we announced earlier this year."

The company had cut 300 jobs in March and is also looking to cut costs in the supply chain, reduce discretionary spending and improve efficiency in business processes, she said.

"While we constantly need to look for cost efficiencies, going forward we're going to be focused on driving the business forward and driving revenue," she said.

Revenue for the Toronto-based company dipped 1 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier as both wireless and cable units were hit by tougher competition.

Rogers has spent heavily to attract smartphone customers even as their monthly bills drop, which has piled on the pressure to reduce costs. The company also recently recorded a loss of cable TV subscribers as telecom rivals improve their offerings.

In wireless, Rogers has faced pressure from new, smaller competitors and regional cable operators such as Quebecor's Videotron, which have begun offering wireless service since a 2008 government auction of airwaves.

Its main national wireless competitors, Bell and Telus Corp , teamed up several years ago to build a comparable network that has helped them narrow Rogers' lead in total subscribers and average wireless bills.

Rogers shares, which have slipped 7 percent so far this year, were trading flat at C$36.54 by midday.

Let's hear it for BlackBerry App World – store hits three billion,






Three billion downloads may not sound like a lot when you look at Android's Google Play store and the iOS app store, but for RIM it's a decent enough milestone. More promisingly for the BlackBerry maker is the fact that the rate of daily downloads from its app store is on the increase.



BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) has been having such a hard time of it lately that it’s actually rather pleasing to be able to report something a little brighter about the troubled company.

It concerns BlackBerry App World, RIM’s Google Play or iOS app store equivalent. The Ontario-based mobile maker reached something of a milestone this week, announcing that downloads from its app store had hit the three billion mark.

Sure, Android and iOS users may scoff at such figures, with each of those stores having hit the 20-billion-plus download figure some time ago, but for RIM it’s a chance to draw some positive attention to its app offerings, indeed, an opportunity to bust “a myth out there that there aren’t [many] apps for BlackBerry smartphones and the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet,” as the company put it in a post on its BlackBerry Developer blog on Friday.

The post’s author, Victoria B, said that on average, 2.5 million apps are being downloaded from BlackBerry App World each day. “What’s even more important – and impressive – is that the number of daily downloads continues to increase,” she continued. “It took 786 days to reach the one billion mark, 210 days to reach two billion, and only 176 days to reach the three billion number.”

The figures include only those apps downloaded from BlackBerry App World – in other words, not those downloaded from third party BlackBerry app stores, or those pushed internally at companies. Apps downloaded directly from the web are also not included in the figures.

There are currently 90,000 apps now in its app store, according to RIM’s data. Again, it’s a small number when you consider there are more than half a million available for iOS devices and a similar number for Android devices, so yes, RIM still has some serious catching up to do. If the store can keep app developers on board until RIM releases its next-generation BlackBerry 10 devices next year, then, depending on the popularity of its new offerings, things might pick up even more for BlackBerry App World.

Despite tough times for the mobile maker, CEO Thorsten Heins is focusing on the positive as he attempts to turn the fortunes of the company around. “As some pundits write RIM’s obituary, the company’s global subscriber base continues to grow, to more than 78 million people in 175 countries,” he wrote in a piece for the Globe and Mail last week, adding, “In many of those countries – some of the fastest growing markets in the world – RIM is the top smart-phone; and in some, RIM devices account for the top three spots.” Friday’s news of an app store continuing to grow, albeit at a modest rate, should also please the man at the top.

2 iPhone 5 Features 'Confirmed', Others Still Questionable,

 


Everyone has been speculating about the as yet unannounced iPhone 5 and its potential features and specs, and some are delaying their upgrades especially for the iPhone 5, shunning Android on the exceptional Samsung Galaxy S3 amongst others.
More iPhone 5 features confirmed?

Now over the past few months, we have come across a ton of rumored iPhone 5 features. While the majority are questionable, there was one that could be ‘confirmed’, that it would have 4G LTE connectivity just like its sibling the New iPad 3, released earlier this year. Now the folks over at Tapscape state that there is another feature which is “pretty much confirmed” for the iPhone 5. Read on to find out which one.

One of the theories, which has been backed up by a number of developers of iPhone accessories, is that the dock on the iPhone is to be decreased from their usual 30 pins to 19 pins, so that the device itself is smaller. This means that you will have to either get all new iPhone accessories or get an adaptor.

Tapscape has reported on a TechCrunch story which stated the following: “Three independent manufacturers all agreed that the 19-pin dock port is in the works and many accessory manufacturers are facing an uneasy few months as they wait for official news of the standard to be announced.”

The Tapscape report also rather melodramatically says that “once interchangeable accessories between most iOS devices will now be rendered obsolete” though it is likely that adaptors will be created so the “trade-off” between size of device and size of port should be worthwhile.
